E-Commerce Fulfillment Automation, Built for High-Density Sortation

2,500 Parcels Per Hour, 540 Destinations, 48 Mobile Robots

July 21, 2026

A leading Indian e-commerce company set out to automate secondary sortation across its fulfillment network. Primary sorting was already handled by conveyors, but the finer sort into hundreds of destinations was still manual and labour-heavy. The customer needed a system that could reach 540 sort destinations in a compact footprint, fit inside an existing conveyor loop, and scale as volumes grow, all without major infrastructure change.

Unbox designed a modular mobile-robot system: 48 robots sorting to 540 destinations at 2,500 parcels per hour, with a high-storage-density rack built to handle the full parcel mix, including odd-shaped returns. The design came together over roughly six months through multiple iterations with the customer's own teams. As the customer's fourth Unbox project, scheduled to go live in 2026, it reflects a partnership built to replicate across their network.
